The Irvine-based California Avocado Commission completed some multi-tiered research last fall and has shared some of the foodservice-related findings.

Datassential’s menu trend shows that 50.8% of U.S. restaurants offer avocado plus guacamole on their menus, an increase of 26% since 2008.

In a consumer study fielded by Menu Matters, more than 80% of consumers said they want avocado source of origin stated on the menu. And consumers are less inclined to order menu items using imported avocados.

In fact, 63.1% of consumers demand California avocados when dining at frequented restaurants.

California residents are more likely than residents from other states to know their chosen restaurant uses California avocados, the study indicated.

More than 80% of consumers believe restaurants featuring California avocados feature fresh, high-quality ingredients, according to the study.

And more than 70% of restaurant patrons nationwide identify avocados as a component in a dish if “California” is part of the menu item’s name or desc.
